Good day to ya everyone. This is the day the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it. Brand new; never before seen. Use it to glorify the Father. Let’s jumpstart it with the word.
Today’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, we thank You for Christian believers who defend You as Creator of our universe and our humanity. Whether it took six of our days or six of Your days,* here we are, and apes are still apes! What does matter is that we can enjoy the complex nature and beauty and awesomeness of Your creation. Without building a relationship with You, our “great knowledge” may very well bring on our downfall. Forgive us, Lord, for our arrogance, our willfulness or immaturity, and our self-centeredness. Forgive us for thinking that we can manage our lives, our nation, and our world-relations without You. Teach us to want more of You, not less; to see that without You we can’t fulfill Your purposes or our dreams. You alone are our only hope, our sustaining grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Let’s eat.
Threefold Justification
Self-justification
Luke 16:15
Then he said to them, “You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.
Job 22:2-3
Can a person do anything to help God? Can even a wise person be helpful to him? Is it any advantage to the Almighty if you are righteous? Would it be any gain to him if you were perfect?
The Proud Sinner’s Condition; Divine Justification
Romans 4:5
When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.
Romans 8:32-33
Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.
The Believing Sinner’s Position; Human Justification
James 2:24
So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.
Micah 6:8
No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Quote of the Day
One can believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and feel no personal loyalty to Him at all – indeed, pay no attention whatever to His commandments and His will for one’s life. One can believe intellectually in the efficacy of prayer and never do any praying.
