Good morning everyone. This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it. In these times when the leaders of our country are denying that we are a religious country but a country of good people trying to do good things for all man kind, I ask that you join me in repenting for such dumb remarks and to press into God for forgiveness of such ignorance and to stand up for the Christian foundation this country was founded on.
Today’s Prayer
Father, I’m standing in the gap for my brothers and sisters in Christ as I come to you to confess that today we are surrounded by confusion, false propaganda, misinformation, lies, deceit and hypocrisy in both politics and religion. More than ever, we need the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth and show us any errors in our thinking, as You promised to do if we would ask. Lord, I’m asking: “Let Your Holy Spirit fill us; mind, body and soul, for fear that we unknowingly fall into Satan’s traps.” In the wonderful name of Jesus I pray, Amen and Amen.
Let’s eat.
Gospel Signals
Danger – “Flee from the wrath to come”
Matthew 3:7-10
But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them. “You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed. “Who warned you to flee God’s coming wrath? Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones. Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.
Caution – “Boast not of tomorrow”
Proverbs 27:1
Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring. Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth—a stranger, not your own lips.
Safety – “Salvation is of the Lord”
Jonah 2:1-10
Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the fish. He said, “I cried out to the LORD in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and LORD, you heard me! You threw me into the ocean depths, and I sank down to the heart of the sea. The mighty waters engulfed me; I was buried beneath your wild and stormy waves. Then I said, ‘O LORD, you have driven me from your presence. Yet I will look once more toward your holy Temple.’ “I sank beneath the waves, and the waters closed over me. Seaweed wrapped itself around my head. I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O LORD my God, snatched me from the jaws of death! As my life was slipping away, I remembered the LORD. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple. Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God’s mercies. But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the LORD alone.” Then the LORD ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach.
