Good morning everyone. Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good yes He is good and worthy of all our praise. Today we are going to concentrate on the small things that we should be thanking God for.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, “It’s the simple things…” The simple things in life are the things that can irritate us and the things that can bring us the most pleasure. We want to thank you for the small things and the simple things. A small thing to one person can be a great thing to someone else. Please help us to stop and think before we react to little things that irritate us. Help us to always appreciate the simple things of life, for they are truly what we enjoy. Thank you for the beaches, mountains, lakes and forests; thank you for the light and warmth of the sun and the freshness and life in cooling rain; thank you for the wildflower so bright and pretty and the singing bird so beautiful; thank you for a child’s love and a pet’s devotion; thank you for a baby’s breath and an old person’s smile; thank you for a cold glass of water on a hot summer day. I could go on and on because there are endless things to be thankful for, but the greatest of all is love. We love you. In JESUS’ name, Amen.
Let’s eat.
SMALL THINGS
Who despises the day of small things? ~ Zechariah 4:10
Life is filled with a series of small things that can amount to something big. Have you ever considered why the God of the universe came to earth and spent 33 years identifying with mankind through work? Jesus grew up as a carpenter’s son and, no doubt, learned the trade from His daily routine of helping His father. For 30 years He worked. When it was time for Him to begin to fulfill His purpose for mankind, He told countless stories of people and their work. He told stories of landowners, farmers, fishermen, tax collectors, and so on. He related to the everyday man because He Himself was one of them up until that time. This is why it was important for Him to have some personal work experience.
Life is filled with daily routines. Every now and then, God takes us to the mountaintop to experience His presence in a dramatic way. This is not the norm. It was not the norm for those in the Bible either. Moses spent 40 years in preparation. Paul spent a great deal of his life working toward the wrong purpose until a dramatic event changed his life. Jacob spent 20 years working for Laban.
God uses work to develop character qualities that He plans to use at the appropriate time. In the small things we develop trustworthiness with God. The day-in and day-out grind of working life molds us and makes us into what God desires. God may still be preparing you for something far greater. For now, however, you are learning the daily lessons of small things. Pray that you will be faithful. Many of us go about our day taking the small things for granted.
We should be aware of every second because the Lord can end this life at any given moment.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
The love of Christ both wounds and heals, it fascinates and frightens, it kills and makes alive, it draws and repulses. There can be nothing more terrible or wonderful than to be stricken with love for Christ so deeply that the whole being goes out in a pained adoration of His person, an adoration that disturbs and disconcerts while it purges and satisfies and relaxes the deep inner heart.
