For the past few weeks I have been in a number of settings where the spirit of the people around me has been very negative. Some of the people have been so eager to just give up hope and fall into destructive patterns. But I’m here to pass along the solution to those thought patterns; Jesus! When you feel like you can’t do any more, call on the name of Jesus and your help is there. Let today’s scripture get you pointed in the right direction.
Today’s Prayer
Our most gracious heavenly Father, as we acknowledge Your sovereignty today, help us to remember that as Christians we have committed ourselves to living by Your rules, and not by our generational whims or desires. You created us, male and female to procreate, nurture and enjoy our families, that we might continue to be Your people. Through Your Son’s sacrifice, You loved us, You taught us, and You saved us. Jesus taught that we were to seek and follow Your will, that we were to show sensitivity to sinners, but that we are not to condone their sins! Forgive us, Lord, as a nation, as a denomination, as a church, and as individuals for too often condoning what You have called sin. Give us courage as we try to remain faithful to Your Word. In the wonderful name of Jesus we pray and give thanks, Amen and Amen.
Let’s eat.
God, Our Help
“Thou hast destroyed thyself; but in Me is thine help”
(Hosea 13:9)
Past Helper – “Thou hast been my help”
Psalm 63:1-7 –
O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.
Present Helper – “A very present help”
Psalm 46:1-3 –
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Future Helper – “The Lord will help me”
Isaiah 50:4-9 –
The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will. The Sovereign Lord has spoken to me, and I have listened. I have not rebelled or turned away. I offered my back to those who beat me and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard. I did not hide my face from mockery and spitting. Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame. He who gives me justice is near. Who will dare to bring charges against me now? Where are my accusers? Let them appear! See, the Sovereign Lord is on my side! Who will declare me guilty? All my enemies will be destroyed like old clothes that have been eaten by moths!
Quote of the Day
The beautiful thing about this adventure called faith is that we can count on Him never to lead us astray.
