Greetings and praise the Lord for another day and another chance to spread the good news to those that don’t know Him. How else will they find out? Let’s get busy people.
Today’s Prayer
Father, give us the insight to see that New Age philosophies today encourage each person to be his or her “own god,” each to decide his or her gender, and she to decide how often and when she wants to abort their babies! Surely it must be obvious that we are losing our unity, our center, and our moral guidelines. Are the leaders of our government, our schools, our movies and television, and some liberal churches, often following New Age trends and sending mixed messages to our citizens? Have their arrogance and their self-centered aims blinded them as to where they are leading us? Open the eyes of our citizens to recognize the demonic forces rampant in our land, and call us to repentance before it is too late; for how can we expect You to hear us in times of national crises if we are worshipping “other gods?” On this Day of Prayer let us each repent for our part, either by neglect or intent, in weakening our nation. Let us sincerely pray for our nation to repent and become obedient to Your moral laws before it is too late. In Jesus’ holy name we pray. Amen.
Let’s eat.
Advice for Elders and Young Men
1 Peter 5:1-11
And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share his glory and his honor when he returns. As a fellow elder, this is my appeal to you: Care for the flock of God entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly–not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your good example. And when the head Shepherd comes, your reward will be a never-ending share in his glory and honor. You younger men, accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, serve each other in humility, for God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble.” So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and in his good time he will honor you. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you. Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. Take a firm stand against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are. In his kindness God called you to his eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. After you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power is his forever and ever. Amen.
Quote of the Day
The most authentic witnesses of any man’s character are those who know him in his own family, and see him without any restraint or rule of conduct, but such as he voluntarily prescribes to himself. If a man carries virtue with him into his private apartments, and takes no advantage of unlimited power or probable secrecy; if we trace him through the round of time, and find that his character, with those allowances which mortal frailty must always want, is uniform and regular, we have all the evidence of his sincerity that one man can have with regard to another; and, indeed, as hypocrisy cannot be its own reward, we may, without hesitation, determine that his heart is pure.
