We Must Die To Self 06-22-21

_ 062216 DIE TO SIN

Good day and praise the Lord for His mercy and grace. Today we will feast on what happens when we receive salvation. Many will look at the title and kind of shut down for a moment but this is a powerful message.

Today’s Prayer

Father, More and more people today are concerned with their physical fitness and good health. But what about our spiritual fitness? I know You made us and You want us to take care of our bodies, but more important is our spiritual health. Paul told Timothy to “Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and life to come” (1 Timothy 4:7-8). Please help us to also work on “firming up our faith” in addition to firming up our body, so that we will be pleasing to You and an example to those around us. We want to grow closer and closer to You and would love to bring others along with us. Lord, anoint us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Let’s eat.

The Believer Has Died

To His Sins

1 Peter 2:24

He personally carried the load of our sins in his own body when he died on the cross, so that we can be finished with sin and live a good life from now on. For his wounds have healed ours!

To the World

Colossians 2:20-22

Since you died, as it were, with Christ and this has set you free from following the world’s ideas of how to be saved–by doing good and obeying various rules –why do you keep right on following them anyway, still bound by such rules as not eating, tasting, or even touching certain foods? Such rules are mere human teachings, for food was made to be eaten and used up.

To the Law

Galatians 2:19-21

19 For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. 20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

For it was through reading the Scripture that I came to realize that I could never find God’s favor by trying–and failing–to obey the laws. I came to realize that acceptance with God comes by believing in Christ.
